On May 29th, 55 stakeholders attended the Webinar hosted by the Covenant of Mayors where the SMILE project was presented.

The SMILE project attended the Webinar, Empowering Islands to Achieve Their Energy and Climate Targets, organized by the Covenant of Mayors on May 29th. The Webinar was introduced by Kostas Komninos director of DAFNI, Network of Sustainable Greek Islands. The 15 panellists that were present during the Webinar discussed several topics such as:

  • supporting tools for islands in energy transition, EU support towards islands,
  • Greek lighthouse islands in the energy transition, climate adaptation
  • Clean Energy Transition Lighthouse EU Islands of the H2020 SMILE project

Duringthe session that was dedicated to the SMILE project, Mark de la Vieter from the New Energy Coalition introduced the SMILE project. Thereafter, the local demonstrator coordinators, Jan Jantzen (Samsø), Mark Hull (Orkney), and Marco Vieira (Madeira) presented their island and its transition towards a clean energy system. The SMILE session was completed by presenting the replication potential of the SMILE project.

It was a very interesting Webinar that hopefully informed, inspired and motivated others about the possibilities of a clean energy transition on islands.

In total 55 participants attended the Webinar whom were able to ask questions to the panelists throughout the Webinar.
